In February 2025, we throw open the doors to Sadler's Wells East, a brand new theatre designed specifically for dance. Situated in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford it forms part of East Bank, the UK's newest cultural and educational facility. Its opening season features 20 productions, everything from hip hop to bharatanatyam, ballet to vogue, and the inaugural production is Vicki Igbokwe-Ozoagu's Our Mighty Groove. The new building is home to six state-of-the-art studios and two education facilities, Academy Breakin' Convention and the Rose Choreographic School as well as a public performance space, The Dance Floor, which gives a platform for community groups and guest artists. Our Mighty Groove will be followed by Humanhood’s Infinite, a unique production that unites movement with guided meditation, Mythili Prakash’s She’s Auspicious, which sees an all-female cast explore notions of femininity through the form of bharatanatyam, and Emma Martin’s Birdboy, a trip into the chaotic and vivid inner world of someone who doesn’t fit in and Martin’s first work for adults and children alike.

At Sadler’s Wells Theatre, February sees the presentation of two much anticipated shows: Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch’s Vollmond, and Wayne McGregor’s Deepstaria.  One of the last works ever made by Pina Bausch in 2006, Vollmond, meaning “full moon” or “high tide”, sees its performers dance Pina Bausch’s iconic choreography in ankle deep water, and has not been performed at Sadler’s Wells since 2013. Meanwhile, Company Wayne McGregor return to Sadler’s Wells for the UK premiere of Deepstaria, a highly sensory, meditative pure dance and acoustic experience which uses VantaBlack technology to challenge our sense of perception.

And over at the Peacock Theatre, Sadler’s Wells’ home in the heart of the West End, the month begins with Compagnie Focus & Chaliwaté in association with MimeLondon’s Dimanche, which tackles the climate crisis using lo-fi FX wizardry, miniature vehicles, puppetry, video and superb visual comedy. Later in the month, waste collectors bring new life to household rubbish in TRASH!, an engaging, high-energy show for all the family.
