One Dance UK is thrilled to confirm that two alumni of our Young Creatives programme have been invited by our friends at Rambert to take part in their popular monthly creative platform The Playground.

The Playground provides a safe space for artists and creatives to come together, play, collaborate and explore creative ideas. Young Creatives is a national programme managed by One Dance UK which nurtures and supports aspiring young choreographers to develop their creative practice through high-quality and personalised mentoring from professional artists, leading to their work being showcased at a professional venue.

One Dance UK is thrilled that alumni from the programme are being offered a fantastic opportunity to further their creative journeys as part of The Playground!

We are delighted that Young Creatives 2022 alumna Martha Thompson will lead part of the June session of The Playground. You can find out more about Martha here:

I am a young choreographer committed to using dance as a platform to present socio-political issues in a nuanced way, challenging audiences to consider new perspectives and open up to new conversations. My work had been previously driven by both young people and up-and-coming artists, performed at venues in London, Birmingham, and Sheffield. My movement is often described as ‘quirky’, taking qualities from a range of styles to encompass intricate flowing gestures, expansive uses of space, and powerful imagery. In the session I want to explore the concept of protesting, I want to create a movement-driven discussion about our own personal experiences of finding our voice and the extent of what we each feel our personal responsibilities are. Thinking about polarising division versus unity and connection I want to find light, joy, and hope within this weighty subject matter, creating an atmosphere where all artists can explore this through their own individual lens. Moving between both modern and historical silencing of activists, I also want to explore the idea of our convictions coming from within and how we outwardly express this.
