One Dance UK, the national support organisation for dance is partnering with Safer Dance and High Speed Training to offer free safeguarding training for the dance sector. High Speed Training www.highspeedtraining.co.uk has helped thousands of individuals and organisations learn about effective safeguarding practices, from the basics of child protection to supporting adults with learning disabilities. This online safeguarding course was built with sector specialists to deliver the latest guidance and industry thinking. The course is being offered for free by High Speed training to dance, sports and physical activity clubs across the UK.

The course was developed by High Speed Training with Paul Stewart, former England international footballer and Safeguarding Trainer for the English Football League.

It is fully online with an assessment, and no time limit – the approximate duration is between one and two hours. The content applies to all physical activity settings, and features contributions from household sporting names including Gary Lineker, Kevin Sinfield and Kelly Cates.

One Dance UK Chief Executive Andrew Hurst and Safer Dance Chair Peter Flew said: “We are delighted that this excellent training programme is available completely free of charge to all adults working in dance and physical activity, supporting our joint ambition for the highest standards of safeguarding across the dance sector.”

High Speed Training PR manager Dan Raymond said: “We are delighted to work with One Dance UK and Safer Dance to provide the dance sector with safeguarding training that we believe can make a real difference to all those involved. We recognise the outstanding work One Dance UK and Safer Dance are doing to encourage the best possible safeguarding standards and we are proud to support these efforts.”

Professional former English footballer Paul Stewart said about this course: “I absolutely believe that the more adults who complete this course, the more children we save from child abuse in sport and physical activity settings. I encourage parents, coaches, organisers, and all those involved to take this up.”

Throughout the course, Paul Stewart uses his personal experience of abuse in a sport and physical activity setting to highlight what can be done to prevent abuse from taking place. Alongside this unique survivor-led approach, the course will help participant to recognise the best practices sports club should follow to keep children safe.
