As an organisation that values the diversity of dance, we firmly believe in the importance of raising awareness and spotlighting the contributions of the neurodivergent community. One Dance UK recognises how expansive this community is and strives to celebrate the diversity within the community. In honour of Neurodiversity Week, 18 – 24 March, we want to take this opportunity to share some useful resources related to dance and beyond.

To understand Neurodiversity better, in all that it encompasses, there’s a plethora of resources available here that zoom into different types of neurodivergence and how to best support it within the workplace/organisations and schools: https://www.neurodiversityweek.com/resource-hub

In the context of dance, Move Beyond Words (MBW) podcast series connects with people from various backgrounds who are dyslexic. The founders and hosts are dance artists and choreographers. You can listen to MBW here: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/move-beyond-words/id1524081490. We also had a conversation with the founders in 2023, talking about Dyslexia in Dance. You can have a read of this interview here:  https://www.onedanceuk.org/resources/dyslexia-in-dance

Lastly, the Royal Conservatoire held an hour-long talk on Dyspraxia in Dance Practice a few years ago. This lecture was led by Aby Watson who is a neurodivergent artist-researcher. You can view the lecture here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_WYgRW0wv8&t=16s
