EncoreEast celebrates Luca Silvestrini as Creative Director for ‘Home from Home’

Award-winning choreographer and founder of international dance company Protein, Luca Silvestrini, is working with EncoreEast and partners to realise the ambitious project ‘Home from Home’.

The project is a pioneering collaboration between venues DanceEast, Norwich Theatre and The Place, their local dance companies EncoreEast, Cadenza, Damn Fine Dance and The Place Dancers. Choreographers Alethia Antonia, Laura Anderson, Molly Wright, Luke Birch and Alleyne Dance have been co-commissioned by the venues and companies. EncoreEast received funding from Arts Council England for ‘Home from Home’.

Luca’s relationship with EncoreEast extends over various projects beginning with a Research and Development workshop for Protein’s The Little Prince, which premiered at DanceEast in 2018. During the pandemic, EncoreEast members took part in Luca’s film, ‘The Sun Inside’. It included over 150 dancers from across the world, was devised and edited by Luca working with Ros Chesher and won Best Musical/Dance Film at the Los Angeles Film Awards.

At the start of the pandemic, EncoreEast was about to work with Protein on re-imagining its production ‘Dear Body’ as part of the Company’s 21st anniversary celebrations. The project moved on-line and became a film ‘Me, My Body and I’. In 2022, EncoreEast co-devised a day for older dancers, HOST, and invited Luca be part of a discussion panel, and that is where the idea for ‘Home from Home’ began.

With an extensive career making dance with communities for stage, outdoor spaces and on film, in January 2023, Luca received The Stage Award for best community project for ‘There and Here’.

EncoreEast is thrilled to be finally working with Luca on the creation of a new dance work. It is the largest, most complex and innovative project that EncoreEast has undertaken to date and EncoreEast is delighted that Luca Silvestrini will ensure its artistic vision and excellence.
