Dance Services was set up thanks to support from the Linbury Trust, in order to provide the freelance dance community with a one stop shop to support their business needs.

Dance Services has been conceived by cultural leader, Assis Carreiro, through research undertaken with a DYCP (Developing Your Creative Practice) Arts Council grant in response to the needs and plight of freelancers during the Covid-19 lockdown. Assis was also a member of Fuel’s Freelance Task Force and is on the Dance Group FTF (Freelance Task Force).

Consultations with freelancers from across all sectors of the dance industry enabled Dance Services to understand in detail how the impact of the various lockdowns had affected freelancers and identified specific needs. These extensive dialogues also revealed wider concerns among the independent, project-based sector that they often lack the resources and capacity to handle some of the essential contacts and business knowledge required to start a career and deliver a project at any stage in their freelance career.

Thanks to far-sighted funding from the Linbury Trust, Dance Services launched with a team of some of the country’s leading professional consultants including international colleagues, offering freelancers a range of affordable services.

Dance Services Founder and Director, Assis Carreiro MBE explains: “In the course of listening to our colleagues across the industry and sharing their experience and concerns, it became very clear that there was a gap in support, especially when it comes to basic survival tools including funding applications, finance, marketing strategy and project management as well as personal mentoring and coaching. How we have responded to this is to create Dance Services and we are now thrilled to reveal our impressive team of industry professionals, who are offering their services with a fee structure that is flexible and affordable to freelancers as well as to project based companies who don’t have easy access to certain key backroom business services.

Dance Services Client, Hanna Wroblowski (Dance Artist and Yoga Teacher) said: “Working with Moving Art Management has been a highly enriching process and I was really happy with the collaboration. Great communication, professionalism, and support all through the assignment.”

Dance Services Client, Georgia Tegou (Choreographer and Creative Director) said: “I worked with Matz Skoog on one-to-one coaching sessions to improve leadership skills and public speaking. The sessions with him were highly motivating for me, making me feel more courageous and determined to achieve my goals.”

The Dance Services Team is Assis Carreiro MBE – Founder and Director and Susannah Burke – Associate Director, together with Claire Bowdler, Lucy Brooks, Jevan Chowdhury, Helen Oldfield, Jim Fletcher, Karen Gallagher MBE, Jan Hart, Greta Hodgkinson O.Ont, Jessica Mallinson, Rachel Jean Birch & Hannah Moreno (Moving Art Management), Fern Potter, Matz Skoog and Andy Corrigan.
