Warming Up in the Cold Spots: KS2 Dance Lesson and Research

Warming Up in the Cold Spots: KS2 Dance Lesson and Research

Discover a powerful KS2 dance resource inspired by the Arts Council England National Lottery-funded Move to be Moved intergenerational dance project in Dudley, Black Country, an arts cold spot.

Created by Dance Artist Tori Drew alongside research by Dr Imogen Aujla, this lesson plan explores how dance can engage children in areas with limited access to the arts.

Using the theme of Children in the Mines during the Industrial Revolution, the resource combines local history, creativity, physical literacy, and wellbeing through accessible, inclusive dance activities designed specifically to engage and motivate KS2 pupils.

Developed through practical experience and research within “cold spot” areas, this resource supports teachers, dance artists, and schools to create meaningful dance experiences that feel relevant, empowering, and connected to children’s lives and communities.

Perfect for:

  1. Primary schools
  2. Dance artists
  3. Arts organisations
  4. Cross-curricular learning
  5. Industrial Revolution topics
  6. Inclusive and community-focused dance practice
