Never have I ever…

Dance currently sits within PE in the national curriculum at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3, and whilst the new curriculum promises to include clearer, more ambitious content for dance (in relation to choreography and appreciation as well as performance), it will still remain within PE. Despite this, we know anecdotally that many trainee PE teachers are not taught the foundations of dance in education, and as such, leave their formal education with limited or no dance experience, yet are expected to deliver high-quality dance lessons. Dance Education Expert Claire Pring shares her experiences of working with trainee PE teachers, and suggests how we can support teachers to deliver high-quality, engaging dance experiences.
