In ballet, technical excellence is only part of the story. Behind every successful career lies a foundation of resilience, physical wellbeing, confidence and the ability to navigate the demands of a highly competitive industry. Recognising the importance of these often-overlooked skills, The Complete Dancer with Yasmine Naghdi has been created to offer young performers a unique opportunity to learn directly from one of ballet's leading artists.
Taking place at the Royal Academy of Dance on 13 September, this professional development workshop for dancers aged 11 and over is led by Yasmine Naghdi, Principal Dancer with The Royal Ballet. Drawing on her experience at the highest level of the profession, Naghdi will share the knowledge, mindset and practical strategies that have supported her throughout her career.
The workshop goes beyond technical training to explore the wider skills that help dancers flourish both in the studio and beyond. Through discussions and practical sessions, participants will gain insights into injury prevention and strength, audition preparation, building confidence under pressure, developing a professional mindset and sustaining a long and healthy career in dance.
In an industry where technical training often takes centre stage, young dancers can find themselves searching for guidance on the many other aspects of their development. How do you cope with setbacks? What does professionalism look like in a rehearsal room? How do you prepare mentally for auditions or performances? And how do you look after your body while striving for excellence? The Complete Dancer seeks to bridge that gap.
"Our aim is simple," says Naghdi. "To help young dancers train smarter, perform stronger and navigate the dance world with greater confidence and clarity." As one of Britain's most celebrated dancers, Naghdi has built an extraordinary career with The Royal Ballet, earning acclaim for her artistry, musicality and technical brilliance. Yet it is her openness about the realities of training and performing at an elite level that makes this workshop particularly valuable. Participants will gain direct access to the professional insights, habits and experiences that underpin success in the dance world.
The workshop also reflects a growing recognition across the sector that nurturing young artists means supporting the whole dancer. Physical strength, mental resilience and self-awareness are increasingly understood as essential components of artistic development, helping dancers not only achieve their goals but enjoy sustainable and fulfilling careers.
For aspiring dancers, opportunities to engage with established professionals in this way can be transformative. Learning from someone who has navigated the challenges of vocational training, auditions and the demands of an international career offers invaluable perspective and inspiration.
We are delighted to bring The Complete Dancer with Yasmine Naghdi to young dancers this September and are incredibly grateful to Yasmine for sharing the experience and insights she has gained at the very highest level of the profession.
For dancers aged 11+, this promises to be an inspiring and empowering day—one that celebrates not only the artist they are becoming, but the complete dancer they have the potential to be.
