Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) has announced a new BA (Hons) Dance: Choreography, Producing and Teaching course, opening opportunities for dancers, choreographers, producers and educators to train together in creating dance, facilitating the making of dance, and shaping its future.

The new undergraduate degree is an interdisciplinary, immersive programme designed to support students in making dance happen in multiple professional contexts. The three-year course combines creative exploration, technical training and professional practice across four integrated strands: Creative and Contextual Studies, Physical Practice, Producing Creative Practice and Dance Teaching. Graduates will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers as artists, choreographers, producers and educators within the evolving dance and arts landscape.

The curriculum has been developed to help students find and refine their artistic voice alongside building practical and professional skills. Central to the course are opportunities for creative practice, project development and teaching, alongside critical reflection on the role and impact of dance in society.

This launch represents a significant addition to the UK dance training ecosystem, offering a course that recognises the broad spectrum of work that constitutes dance making, including choreography, producing and teaching, alongside performance and artistic inquiry, essential for forging a portfolio career in today’s artistic landscape.

The degree will be offered full time over three years, with applications now open for entry in September 2026. The application deadline is midnight on 29 March 2026. Prospective students can audition in person at NSCD in Leeds or submit a video audition as part of their application.
