A new national collective of leading Argentine Tango professionals has been formed in the UK, bringing together many of the dancers and teachers who helped shape the country’s modern tango scene. Argentine Tango Pro (ATP) launches with a mission to raise the profile of Argentine Tango as both an art form and a living cultural tradition, while championing the high standards of teaching available across the UK.
The collective includes some of the most experienced figures in British tango - many of whom played a pivotal role in the revival of Argentine Tango in the UK over the past three decades. Members have contributed to major cultural moments, including the early success of Strictly Come Dancing and the hit West End production Midnight Tango, helping bring tango into the national spotlight. ATP has been created not as a gatekeeping body, but as a supportive and collaborative voice within a diverse tango ecosystem.
“The UK has a rich and thriving tango community,” an ATP spokesperson said. “This initiative is about recognising the depth of professional experience within it, while supporting dancers and teachers at every level. We want to make it easier for the public to access high-quality teaching and to understand tango as a living cultural heritage.”
The group emphasises that it does not seek to undermine the many dedicated non-professional (“hobbyist”) teachers who contribute to tango’s popularity across the country. Instead, it aims to complement existing networks by offering visibility to those with extensive professional training and direct links to tango’s cultural roots in Argentina.
Alongside promoting excellence in teaching and performance, ATP will act as a collective voice for professionals, advocate for standards, and help connect audiences with authentic tango experiences nationwide.
As part of its launch, Argentine Tango Pro has joined One Dance UK, the national body for dance, opening new opportunities for collaboration across the wider sector and increasing visibility for Argentine Tango within the UK’s cultural landscape. With a renewed focus on heritage, artistry and accessibility, ATP hopes to inspire a new generation of dancers while celebrating the legacy of those who have built the UK tango scene.
