This autumn, internationally acclaimed choreographer Jasmin Vardimon MBE will premiere Lullaby, a new production that returns to the world of her award-winning 2003 work to ask an urgent contemporary question: what does it truly mean to care - for ourselves, for one another, and for the systems that support our health and wellbeing?

Vardimon’s original Lullaby, set in a hospital ward, marked a defining moment in her career, earning awards and helping establish her as an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells. More than two decades later, she revisits and expands that world with fresh insight, renewed urgency and a bold new vision for the stage.

Against the stark, clinical backdrop of a hospital environment, Lullaby explores the fragile dualities of human life: joy and despair, vulnerability and resilience, sickness and wellbeing. Through striking imagery, emotionally charged performance and Vardimon’s signature fusion of wit, poignancy and visceral theatricality, the work focuses on what sits at the heart of society: care, health and human connection.

At a time when pressure on health and social care systems, social disconnection and the fragility of wellbeing are increasingly visible, Lullaby invites audiences into a world that is both unsettling and deeply human, confronting the universal experience of dependence, recovery and resilience.

Jasmin Vardimon said: “When I first created Lullaby, I was drawn to the hospital ward as a place where the personal and the universal meet. It is a space of fragility and strength, where the body carries both vulnerability and resilience. Returning to this world now allows me to look again at what it means to care, for ourselves and others. I wanted to revisit the work through today’s lens, not as a memory, but as a new creation for this moment.”

Lullaby will receive its world premiere at JV H.O.M.E. in Ashford, the company’s purpose-built creation and production space, before touring to venues across the UK including King’s Theatre, Edinburgh; Theatre Royal, Nottingham; Theatre Royal Winchester; Liverpool Playhouse; Connaught Theatre, Worthing; Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield; Exeter Northcott; and DanceEast, Ipswich. The premiere offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience the work in the intimate setting where it was created, before the production tours nationally.

Lullaby is co-commissioned by Sadler’s Wells, Ashford Borough Council and DanceEast.
