A world-class dance production from Sadler’s Wells and Ballo Arthur Pita, The Little Match Girl is brought to life with music, dance, and a cast of colourful characters, and is free to access from now until 31 January 2026.
Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s traditional tale and with a powerful message at its heart, The Little Match Girl reminds us of the importance of kindness and to consider those less fortunate than ourselves. A snowy stage sets the scene for an icy cold Christmas eve, where the little match girl paces the emptying streets, desperately trying to sell her matches.
There is also a selection of creative teaching resources available on Padlet, which have been tailored to suit those working at Key Stage Levels One and Two. They include an introduction from the director and choreographer, Arthur Pita, and a video dance workshop led by a member of the company.
Sign up and automatically gain access to the film and resources. Watch the one-hour long performance as many times as you like, watch it all at once or break it up into sections for your class. An audio described version of the film is also available. Available to schools, community groups and home educators.
