At the heart of the evening is the launch of Breaking Barres, a new initiative focused on improving access and representation within ballet. While training environments are becoming more diverse, this progress is not yet fully reflected across the professional industry, particularly at senior levels. Many Black and global majority dancers continue to face barriers as they move into their careers.

The black-tie event will begin at 6pm with a drinks and canapé reception, followed by an exclusive performance showcase from Elmhurst’s talented young dancers in the school’s Studio Theatre. Guests will then enjoy a distinctive mezze-style fine dining experience curated by Cylla, with the evening concluding at approximately 10.30pm.

Located on Newhall Street, Cylla is known for its vibrant Mediterranean flavours, creative mezze, and expertly crafted cocktails. Founder Adonis Maniadakis draws on the stories, tastes and traditions of his upbringing to create a warm and dynamic take on modern Greek hospitality. The specially curated menu for the Breaking Barres Gala will showcase the best of Cylla’s offering, from sharing plates designed to bring people together to standout vegetarian, fish and meat dishes inspired by Greek cuisine.

Speaking about the collaboration, Jessica Ward, Principal of Elmhurst Ballet School, said: “Elmhurst has had an incredible year, and to conclude it in partnership with one of Birmingham’s finest independent restaurants is a real highlight. The team at Cylla have created a menu that celebrates Elmhurst, bringing theatricality, elegance and their own unique style to the dinner table at this special event.”

Ahead of dinner, Elmhurst students will perform a varied programme in the Studio Theatre, including Dance of the Argonauts from David Bintley’s The Orpheus Suite and an excerpt from Frederick Ashton’s The Dream, alongside original works by Junior Cunningham, George Liang, Dane Bates, Marika Brussel, and ACE Dance. The programme will celebrate the bold creativity of emerging choreographers while showcasing the artistry of classical ballet.

Tickets are priced at £150 per person or £1,400 for a table of ten, with all proceeds supporting the Breaking Barres programme. Breaking Barres has been designed to provide meaningful, long-term support. Students aged 16 to 19 will be paired with mentors from across the dance industry, gaining valuable guidance as they prepare for professional careers. The programme will also offer dedicated financial support to help ensure that talent can be developed without limitation.

This year’s Gala promises an evening that brings together performance, purpose and exceptional hospitality. A highlight of the Elmhurst calendar, the event offers guests the opportunity to enjoy world-class dance, refined dining and meaningful connection, alongside opportunities for table hosting, sponsorship and client entertainment in a truly distinctive setting.
