Founded by choreographer Neus Gil Cortes, Lead & Create is a new initiative for independent choreographers to help enhance their creative process and that of their collaborators by empowering them to become stronger leaders.

Our 6-week artist-led course is tailored to the very specific needs of independent choreographers. Developed through consultations with more than 40 artists, and supported by The Place, Equity and One Dance UK, Neus Gil Cortés, has crafted an online course that’s both flexible and affordable to equip independent choreographers with essential knowledge, tools and skills needed to lead their most successful, inspiring, and creative processes. The course runs 14 October-22 November and bookings are open 26 September- 13 October.

Alongside Lead & Create has launched an inspirational podcast with episodes dedicated to discussing leadership issues and challenges faced by independent choreographers today. Fronted by Neus, it delves into the leadership issues and challenges faced by independent choreographers. In each episode Neus shares valuable insights from her extensive career and welcomes guest contributors from some of the industry’s most mindful leaders.

Neus is a choreographer, dramaturg, and teacher. She is the artistic director of Nua Dance, a project-based company regularly funded by Arts Council England. She was previously a dancer in companies such as NDC Wales, Hofesh Shechter and Dance Works Rotterdam as well as for freelance projects. She has more than 20 years of experience and has been involved in over 60 creative processes in different roles and capacities. Neus has first-hand experience of the career-changing effects
of great leadership and is deeply passionate about making this an industry-wide practice.

Since 2022 she has been training in leadership herself through workshops including Discover your Leadership by Clore Leadership (2024) and Coaching Skills for Cultural Leadership by Arts Connect and University of Wolverhampton (2022).
