Assam’s Art and Culture Shine at the House of Lords, UK Parliament

London-based South Asian artist and Sattriya dancer Anannya Mahanta was conferred with the Cluster of Achievers Award 2026 for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts. The award ceremony, organised by the World School Summit, was held at the House of Lords in the UK Parliament on 21st of July.

The award was presented by Lord Daniel Brennan KC, who praised the growing international recognition of Assam’s rich artistic and cultural traditions during his inaugural and felicitation address. Recalling his visit to Assam several years ago, Lord Brennan expressed his admiration for the state’s cultural heritage and shared fond memories of his time there. He also highlighted the longstanding relationship between India and the United Kingdom, acknowledging ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. Lord Brennan appreciated the contributions of individuals and organisations working to promote cultural exchange and deepen India–UK relations.

The international networking event brought together distinguished delegates from India, Kenya, Mexico, Bangladesh and several other countries. Mahanta was the sole delegate representing Assam at the event. She also represented Sutraya, the cultural platform she founded to promote Sattriya and Bihu Dance and Assamese heritage. The recognition marks a significant milestone in Mahanta’s artistic journey and celebrates her sustained efforts to bring Sattriya Dance and Assam’s cultural traditions to international audiences.
