No Dress Code is our annual informal scratch night offering local artists the opportunity to test work-in-progress in front of a live audience. No Dress Code 2025 takes place at Yorkshire Dance on Friday 21 November in the evening. The event normally features 3 or 4 works-in-progress.

After the performances we display your questions and invite the audience to provide written feedback and share their insights. There are also plenty of opportunities to discuss your work in person with local artists and audiences throughout the evening.

Each dance artist selected to perform receives a fee of £135 and studio space during the week of No Dress Code (if required and available).

We are looking for:
Works-in-progress. i.e. New work in early phase of research and development.
Performance, film or installation work created for a live audience.
Work suitable to programme in a studio or performance space.
Short pieces (5-15 minutes duration), with little or no previous audience exposure. Or an excerpt from a longer work still in development.
Work with minimal technical requirements due to quick turnarounds between performances.
Work with minimal set-up of props/set/equipment.
Works created by artists or companies based in the North of England.

We only consider proposals from artists who are not in full-time education and work in the North of England.

Our selection process considers the strength of the artistic idea, our budget and the technical and logistical feasibility of programming the work within No Dress Code.

We aim to inform successful applicants by Tuesday 1 July 2025 allowing time for selected applicants to include No Dress Code as a public testing event within funding applications.

To apply, complete the online application form by Monday 23 June 2025, 11:00am.
