Job Description:

We are looking for dance graduates and professionals to join our team who are keen to support and assist inclusive dance provision for primary school aged children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

The Royal Academy of Dance is a global leader in dance education and teaching, driving excellence in the development of dance world-wide.

The RADiate programme provides subsidised dance classes to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The children we work with include those on the autism spectrum, those with physical disabilities, children with moderate, severe and complex learning difficulties, and those who are non-verbal.

We are looking for dance assistants to work practically alongside our experienced dance artists to support the RADiate sessions that are held within our partner primary schools.

Spread over the Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms you will train with experienced RADiate lead artists in a specialist school, developing your confidence in inclusive, sensory dance practice. The specific focus will be on working with primary aged children, between age 4-11, with special education needs, including complex needs and PMLD. This is a freelance position for a limited number of hours weekly, during time term, for minimum of 10 weeks (up to 31 weeks).

Our partner schools are located throughout London, but most are located in South West London. We are especially keen to hear from candidates located in these areas.

 

Joining us, you will ideally have:

  • a recognised dance qualification
  • some experience assisting or teaching dance sessions
  • interest or experience in inclusive dance provision
  •  a good working knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection related issues and procedures;

 

You will need:

  • strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to form effective relationships;
  • a positive attitude, and enjoy working with children;
  • first class customer service delivery;
  • a well-developed resilience, with an understanding that some of the young people we work with may present challenging behaviours during sessions
  • To be able to commit to a year of freelance facilitation work with RADiate of at least one half-day (2hours) per week for a minimum of 1 full-term and ideally across the full academic year
