Job Description:

Foundation for Community Dance - more usually known as People Dancing: foundation for community dance - seeks a diverse cohort of three to five new Trustees with the vision, ambition and commitment to support the organisation in realising its future plans.

What are we seeking?

We strive for a diversity of thought and experience within the Board of Trustees. We particularly welcome applications from people with knowledge and experience in any of the following:

  • Working inclusively, diversity, equality, equity, social and environmental justice
  • Dance, health and wellbeing
  • Education, learning and skills development
  • Youth dance/young people dancing/early years dance
  • Community or participatory dance, ideally as an artist, producer or teacher, in different contexts, styles and forms
  • Legal, governance, HR and finance (and an interest in joining the Finance & Governance Committee)
  • The funding/reporting framework for National Portfolio Organisations in England
  • Lived experience of disability, socio-economic barriers, experiencing racism, parenting/caring, younger people/students and community dance as a participant
  • The civic sphere/realm outside of the arts e.g. non-arts charity, community development
  • Development, delivery and good governance of assessment and vocational qualifications (and an interest in joining the Professional Qualifications Committee)
  • Marketing and communications, advocacy and campaigning
  • Income generation and fundraising
  • Perspectives from the four nations of the UK.

What would the commitment be?

  • Attendance at four Board of Trustee meetings per year held quarterly, where programme, operational and financial updates are received and approved. Three of these meetings will be held online. One meeting is in-person in conjunction with an awayday and social event.
  • Appointments are for a three-year term of office with potential for re-appointment to a maximum of three consecutive terms.
  • The Board of Trustees delegate certain responsibilities to committees and working groups (currently Finance and Governance Committee, and Professional Qualifications Committee). Trustees may wish to or be asked to serve on one of these committees or groups during their term of service.
  • Trustees are encouraged to engage with each other and staff between meetings.
  • Trustee appointments are voluntary and unpaid, but reasonable travel costs and out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, or travel/accommodation arranged on your behalf.
