Karen in The Red Shoes (Leading Role)

Company: Royal Shakespeare Company

Location: London and Stratford Upon Avon

Level: Highly Skilled

Salary: Weekly Rate. Above Equity Minimum

Contract Type: Equity - RSC House Agreement

Closing Date: 15 Jul 24

Job Description:

To play Karen. Karen is 16, an orphan, her mother has just died. She's taken in by distant relatives where she is viewed as foreign, an outsider. When her mother dies she doesn’t speak, and she doesn’t cry. She tries to please her new family, longing for attention and validation. Dance is her first language - not solely ballet or classical, the movement in this production will be more contemporary/modern. Our red shoes are not a pointe shoe.

We are looking for a ballet dancer with interest in contemporary dance or a really well trained contemporary dancer. This is also a leading acting role with many scenes, so text ability is required. Please note this is a play with music so all members of the cast need to be able to hold a tune.
