RJC Dance Tutor: Shahck Out Juniors Tuesday & Shahck Out Saturday

Role Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced freelance tutor to deliver weekly dance sessions and choreograph work for RJC Dance Shahck Out Juniors Tuesday and Shahck Out Saturday, as part of our established Youth Provision.

Conditions of Employment: Fixed term contract, subject to funding.

Place of Work: Based at Mandela Centre, Leeds. Pay: £27 per hour

Hours of Work: Tuesdays: 5pm – 6:30pm (ages 9-12years), Saturdays: 12:30pm – 2pm (ages 12-15years), during term times We are open to applications from individuals with availability to deliver 1 or both of these sessions.

Additional hours required for RJCD Annual Showcase performance in December, NSCD Community Dance Platform in Spring and any other group performances etc.

Start Date: January 2025 Probationary Period: 3 months

Accountability: To the Director and Board of Trustees

Relationships: Directly responsible to the Director

Specific Responsibilities:

  • To plan, prepare and lead interesting and engaging weekly dance sessions as part of the RJC Dance Youth Provision in the styles of Carnival, Street, Urban, Contemporary, Jazz and Reggae.
  • To create appropriate and challenging choreography, for RJCD Annual Showcase in December NSCD Community Dance Platform in Spring and any other performance opportunities throughout the year.
  • Actively supporting the progression of young people during their classes and ensure all attendees participate
  • To liaise with staff, young people, partners and providers, as required, to ensure RJC Dance Provision is aligned with the overall vision & mission of the organisation.
  • To ensure all attendance monitoring and reporting is received from activity in a timely manner and is collated, analysed and submitted to RJC Dance, as required

General Responsibilities:

  • To interact with participants of RJC Dance in a courteous, warm and welcoming manner
  • To always comply with RJC Dance Youth Provision policies: Health and Safety, Child / Adult Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, Inclusion & Environmental.
  • To promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, safety and safeguard young people and vulnerable adults from abuse, recognising and responding to signs of abuse and neglect, ensuring that all safeguarding concerns are reported to the designated safeguarding person(s) and undertaking regular safeguarding training
  • To treat people with respect and always maintain dignity
  • To carry out other duties as required by the Director
  • To provide cover for staff absences
  • To attend and participate in meetings, training and supervision sessions as required
  • To actively promote and support RJC Dance policies
  • To undertake an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

Detailed below are the skills, experience and knowledge which are required of applicants applying for the post. The ‘Desirable Requirements’ are additional attributes to enable the applicant to perform the position more effectively or with little or no training. They are not essential but may be used to distinguish between acceptable candidates.

Essential Experience:

  • At least 2 years relevant experience as a dance tutor /manager
  • At least 2 years relevant experience as a choreographing for young people Knowledge & experience of working with children, young people & adults in community settings
  • Delivery, Co-ordination and management of classes/workshops/projects/programmes to strict timescales.
  • Experience of working in an environment committed to equality of opportunity and promoting diversity

Skills:

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Strong organisational skills with a problem-solving attitude
  • Self-motivated, well organised and work proactively to take responsibility for own workload

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of RJC Dance objectives

  • Full driving licence & access to a car
  • Knowledge of Dance sector in Leeds Knowledge of Community Dance Landscape, including future trends & developments
