Company: TeesDance
Location: You can be based anywhere in the UK, though understanding the Tees Valley is desirable. We welcome a Chair who can occasionally attend key event.
Level: Non-Executive, Senior Governance Role (Voluntary)
Salary: Voluntary (Unpaid)
Contract Type: Fixed-Term
Closing Date: 21 Nov 25
Job Description:
We are seeking a Chair or Co-Chair to guide TeesDance through a pivotal stage in our development as a newly registered charity. Our current board is passionate and growing, made up of individuals from across the dance, creative, and community sectors. We’re now looking for a strategic leader to help us strengthen our governance, deepen our impact, and raise our profile locally and nationally.
The Chair/Co-Chair will play a vital role in shaping the direction of the organisation — leading board meetings, supporting the Director, and acting as an ambassador for TeesDance. You’ll help ensure that we are inclusive, accountable, and artistically ambitious, as we move towards longer-term sustainability and explore future opportunities, including space development, partnership growth, and financial resilience.
This is an exciting moment to join us. You’ll be helping shape the future of dance in the Tees Valley — championing creative access, nurturing talent, and ensuring that more people experience the power of movement in their everyday lives.
Skills and Experience:
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals with one or more of the following areas of expertise:
- Strategic or organisational leadership
- Fundraising and income diversification
- Finance or accountancy
- HR, governance or charity law
- Marketing, communications and advocacy
- Health, education or community partnerships
- Venue or capital project management
- Digital innovation or creative technologies
- Dance or wider arts practice
We particularly encourage applications from those with lived experience of the communities we serve across Tees Valley/Teesside.
Eligibility:
No previous trustee experience is required — what matters most is your commitment, openness and belief in the power of dance to transform lives.
You must:
- Be 18 or over
- Not be disqualified under the Charities Act 2011
- Be willing to undertake a DBS check if required
- Ideally be based in or connected to the North East (though meetings are hybrid)
Making a Difference:
As Chair / Co‑Chair of TeesDance, your leadership will be instrumental in guiding our organisation through a significant stage of growth and consolidation.
Specifically:
You’ll help us strengthen governance and accountability, ensuring that our board operates confidently and effectively as we expand our reach. With your strategic insight, you’ll support us in building financial sustainability and diversified income, enabling TeesDance to deliver its programmes with consistency and impact.
Your role as an ambassador and advocate will help raise our profile among funders, partners, and communities — helping us unlock new opportunities, collaborations, and resources. You’ll contribute directly to our mission of making dance visible, accessible, and inclusive — helping us deliver programmes that promote wellbeing, connection, and cultural expression across the Tees Valley.
During this growth phase, you’ll help steer key organisational developments (e.g. infrastructure, capital plans, a flagship dance venue) and ensure that our growth remains rooted in care, equity, and community needs.
Your contribution as Chair / Co‑Chair will enable TeesDance to move from an emergent organisation to a stable, visible, and lasting cultural institution in the region — making dance a powerful force for social connection, creative opportunity, and community wellbeing.
