This interactive session will offer a summary of current definitions, attitudes and realities surrounding the diasporic dances as experienced by students and teachers both in community and HE.
Together, we will explore practical solutions towards progress and defining the future with heart and purpose with a culturally informed lens.
Some questions we will address directly include:
-What is diasporic dance in 2025?
-What is somatic practice in relation to diasporic dance and how has it changed?
-How can we ensure the legacy and future of the diasporic dances?
This will benefit anyone with an interest in non-western dances, meditative and ecstatic dance forms, intergenerational practice and those looking to support others working in these sectors.
